High quality thoughts

September 2025

Hot take: the best indicator for high quality content on the internet is if the website looks like it was made 20 years ago.

Today, the internet is cluttered with AI slop, advertisements, and an endless stream of content that somebody else wants us to see because it generates revenue for them in some way. We consume so much content passively that we don’t even notice it.

And when we do, our thought funnel is like this:

External media → Internal thought

For example:

See TikTok video → “I need to buy XYZ”

I think the best way we can regain control of our thoughts (and think more imaginatively and creatively) is if an idea originates with ourselves, and only then do we seek external sources to dive deeper.

Internal thought → External content

How can we consistently achieve this thought funnel?

1. Restrict social media usage

2. Meditate

3. Meet different people / travel

4. Read

We can extrapolate this mental model to decision-making too. Are you doing something because it was promoted to you or do you truly want it? What are your underlying interests, and what steps can you intentionally take to achieve them?

For example, are you going on exchange because your school offers an exchange program and all your friends are applying? Or maybe you just want to try living abroad?

Instead of:

Exchange program is offered → I will go on exchange

The decision-making model could be:

I want to experience life abroad → I will work in country XYZ for a year

Ultimately, high quality content leads to high quality thoughts, which lead to high quality decisions. A series of high quality decisions over time - well that’s how you live a high quality life.
